Historical gaming allows students to do exactly what historians do—follow the concrete acts of cognition that lead to historical interpretations.

More simply put: historical gaming teaches students how to think, write, and question historically and how to make choices, weigh opinions, and feel uneasy about evidence. Students practice historical understanding.
